Hello Coaches!
If you are reading this, it is because you have volunteered to coach or assistant coach for the upcoming AYSO season. Our region appreciated your commitment to us. But before you can set foot on our fields, there are just a few administrative things that you need to complete. By completing this process, you are ensuring the safety of our players and the continued success of our program.
STEP 1 - REGISTER
AYSO is a national organization that requires all volunteers to register annually regardless of what position or role they are filling. This is very important for two reasons:
1. All registered volunteers are background checked by AYSO to ensure regions aren't putting player safety at risk.
2. Only registered volunteers are protected under AYSO liability insurance. This means that you cannot be held personally liable if a player is injured during the normal course of play. If you do not register, you cannot coach.
Registering is done online through this page. Click the 'interested in volunteering?' tab at the top and then 'register now' on the next screen.
When you get to the end of the registration form, you will be asked to provide an electronic signature.
NOTE: You do not need to print out a copy of your volunteer application unless you want it for your personal records.
STEP 2 -BACKGROUND CHECK
Background checks are required for all volunteers. Follow the instructions during the application process. You will be asked to pay the $25 volunteer membership fee. Please contact us if you would like to be reimbursed for this cost.
STEP 3 - COACH TRAINING
All of the required training can be completed online at your own pace. AYSO provides a fantastic set of basic online courses to help you easily and conveniently get the training you need.
All AYSO coach volunteers MUST complete the following:
- AYSO Safe Haven
- Age-Appropriate Coach Training
- AYSO CDC Concussion Awareness (Required by the state of Tennessee.)
- Sudden Cardiac Arrest Awareness (Required by the state of Tennessee.) *Keep a copy of SCA in your coach folder at all times.
We recommend keeping a copy of all AYSO training for your records, as sometimes there are technical glitches and training doesn't get saved properly. If you have any questions about what age appropriate training you need, please contact us.
Coaches will need to register as a volunteer and process their background check prior to receiving their team roster.
